scooter safety

The Right Way to Observe Scooter Safety

Wherever you are and whatever you do, safety is of utmost importance. Don’t do anything that will compromise your safety, especially when riding scooters. Even if scooters aren’t as fast as bikes and cars, you should still follow these tips to ensure a pleasant experience while on the road.

1. Be well-trained on how to drive a scooter.
You might know how to drive a car. But scooters are a different thing. The experience of driving a scooter can also be different from driving a motorbike. So before hitting the main road, make sure you are familiar with driving the scooter. Do it right because your life is in your hands.

2. Keep your eyes on the road.
A good driver not only keeps his eyes, but his mind, on the road as well. Always remember that you are on a scooter and not on a train or a bus. Therefore, you’ve got to stop daydreaming and start watching the cars that passes by you.

3. Don’t speed up.
Drive the scooter at its normal speed. You know that speeding up causes accidents. So why do it? If you want to go faster than your scooter takes you, better get something else. Scooters are relatively light. If you drive it too fast, you might lose control.

4. Drive defensively.
Always think about yourself and your safety when maneuvering on the road. Don’t squeeze through tight places just because your scooter can. If you think you are going to put yourself in an tight position, don’t push it.

5. Run at your own pace and time.
If there’s somebody at your back honking at you, let him pass you. Don’t speed up or slow down for them, unless you really have to. Use a certain lane or part of the road and stay there. That way, other drivers can adjust accordingly.

6. Never drink and drive.
Scooters aren’t exempt from the DUI law. Besides, driving a scooter requires you to keep good balance all the time. And that’s not easy to do if you are drunk. If you’ve had a drink, take the passenger seat in a car or taxi.

7. Wear the necessary gear.
Don’t just wear gear. Use the right gear. Use helmets especially created for scooter riders. You are also going to need gloves and eye protection. These are required for your own safety. Don’t leave these at home.

Follow these seven tips and you can say that you are properly using a scooter. Don’t neglect these tips. They will keep you safe.

Reviewing Scooters

Scooters have become the latest in wheelchairs. They have sold more than the latter simply because they don’t look like regular wheelchairs. You cannot blame the elderly for preferring mobility scooters over wheelchairs. Wheelchairs are a connotation of old age.

Scooters are fun vehicles! Generally, they are three-wheeled devices that have a tiller which is used for steering, a seat that is comfortable to sit on and a flat area that is perfect for the feet.

Those who have a hard time moving or have to exert extra effort to walk find mobility scooters to be good transportation. If you have seen In Her Shoes, there is the scene with the two elderly best friends shopping at the grocery store. A mobility scooter is what one of them is riding.

In order to know whether a manual wheelchair or a scooter is best, you need to take notes and figure out the advantages and disadvantages of both. By understanding the reviews of both, you’ll have a better idea what suits you best.

Manual Wheelchairs
Advantages:
1. It is lighter compared to the scooter
2. It has great reliability
3. It is very easy to transport
4. It isn’t expensive
5. It provides the rider exercise
6. It is easier to get through the accessibility programs encountered with it.

Disadvantages:
1. It is possible that there will be secondary complications after using it in the long run. These are mostly complications on the wrists, elbows and shoulders.
2. It requires extraneous effort to mobilize.

Scooters
Advantages:
1. It doesn’t look like a wheelchair at all
2. It has an increased mobility range without the extra effort
3. The swivel seat allows the rider to transfer inside and outside the seat.

Disadvantages:
1. It is more complicated to put the scooter in a car as opposed to that of the wheelchair.
2. Most models need to be charged.
3. It isn’t that flexible in modifying.

Now that you have been presented with the pros and cons of two choices that will provide you with the best way to mobilize yourself, it’s up to you to choose which one best suits you.

Think of your budget as well as why you are using it in the first place. Get the model that you can afford. Invest in the wheelchair or scooter since you will be using it for a long time.
